Whenever there is an expansion in a given task, it calls for recruits who will make the work easy and make the administration of an establishment easy.

So was it with the early Church.

When the Word of God became well spread, Saints were added to the congregation of the people of God. As disciplined leaders, the twelve Apostles were not ready to forsake their major task of ministry in the Word of God and prayer to engage in other work(s) that would distract their attention. They opted to choose others to come on board.

The twelve leaders called the brethren and held a meeting where they were instructed to choose seven persons who fit into their given descriptions:
*Respected;
*Full of the Holy Spirit;
*Filled with wisdom.

Using these as their yardstick, they selected, among so many, seven brothers.
"[5]Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith)." Acts 6.

These Saints of Christ became the first set of Deacons.

Let us consider the second person on the list, Philip. This man stood out among the brethren chosen differently. He was properly described with the recommendation of the Apostles.

He was full of the Holy Spirit to the point that he was taking "Holy Spirit's Flights" everywhere. The Scriptures record about him, "[39]When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away. The eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing." Acts 8. NLT.
This was after he preached the Gospel to a great man from Ethiopia who was returning from his trip to Jerusalem. He baptized him also.

Philip also was used by the Lord to carry out various wonders and miracles in Samaria and other places. He started as a Deacon to become a well-known Evangelist working many miracles in the name of the Lord.

He was well described and he did not disappoint those who described him as a respected man full of the Holy Spirit and Wisdom.

Beloved, this is a food for thought to everyone who is an Elect of the Lord. If Philip was worthy of his descriptions, we should not do less. May the Lord help us to be worthy of our callings and descriptions in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
