Men
Report Article
In the early Church, when there was multiplication in the number of disciples, there was grumbling among different sections of the congregation. The Greek brethren complained about their windows who were forgotten in the sharing of palliatives.
To avoid any discord, the twelve disciples held a meeting with the brethren where the matter was tackled outrightly.
The twelve Apostles gave a guideline to the brethren on what to do next:
"[3]And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.
[5]Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith)." Acts 6, NLT.
The choice of these men was based on the description given to identify the persons who fit into it. They were the ones who would be better described by the guidelines. Every facet of their lives must be adequate to be so described.
It is worthy of note that it was not the Apostles who chose the men but the brethren, among whom the proper persons should be chosen. With the guidelines given, respected people, are filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom of God.
The first person mentioned in the list of the seven persons was Stephen. He was not wrongly chosen and placed in the number one position. He excelled to become the first martyr. He was stoned to death because of his faith in Christ.
Before his death, there was a testimony that _"Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people."_ Acts 6:8, KJV.
Not only that, the religious leaders of his days "were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke."(Acts 6:10).
Let me not fail to call your attention to one fact this man was used (because he made himself available) more than he was appointed for. He was chosen to distribute food faithfully and the Apostles and the congregation will be satisfied but he was used beyond the service of a Deacon.
Can you see that he was properly described as a respected man, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom?
Every Christian has words to describe him. In thoughts, words, and deeds, we must fit in to be called "small Christ". May the Lord help us to be worthy of our calling in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.

KJV is the King James Version;
NLT is New Living Translation.
