Apologetics
Report Article
There are certain people who see themselves living in this world forever. They never think of death or a God to meet for accountability after leaving this planet called Earth. They are of the opinion that everything begins and ends here. Is that so?
The thoughts of such people tilts towards acquisition of things of the World. As they got more, they want more and all the time. They are never satisfied nor be content. Do you know what? It is not even the acquisition that is only a sin but the selfishness involved.
What does this mean? It means that they acquire material things of this world and in this world for their personal purposes only. No consideration for anyone else. They are grossly possessed with "self" alone.
Is there any Biblical reference to this? "Yes, there is!"
Jesus Christ in one of His parables spoke of a rich man who had a very great harvest. The contents of his heart reveal who he was, a selfish one. He declared,
"And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry." Luke 12, 18, 19.
In those words, is there any thoughts about others? He was not concerned. This is one of the attitude of those who forget about death or dying. Everything they get is for themselves alone.
Whereas, this ought not to be so. What was the divine answer and action that followed disclosure of the contents of his heart?
"But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?" Luke 12:20, KJV.
From the above, it can be clearly observed that SUDDEN DEATH was what happened next. He never remember there was anything like death. He had no plans for his end because he did not think of one. He was given the proper name, a "fool".
He realized that he had no power over his soul that he promised to be at rest for there are goods laid up for him to eat, drink and make merry.
Beloved, it is better to remember that there is an end to every life which is strictly under the control of the Lord Who created all things. Therefore, it is wisdom for anyone to think about death, the end of every man, and plan for the end. May you not behave like a fool acquiring goods for only his soul in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
