Apologetics
_“Here I am, a stranger and a foreigner among you. Please sell me a piece of land so I can give my wife a proper burial.”_ Genesis 23:4. New Living Translation(NLT)
The above words are those of Father Abraham after the death of Sarah, his wife. He was requesting a burial place to buy from the children of Heth. They obliged him to purchase the portion he desired.
What I want to call your attention to is how he saw and described himself in the land. He knew himself to be "a stranger and a foreigner" not only amid the Hittites but in the land of the living.
Those words came at a time when he was mourning and crying for the death of his wife with whom he had lived all his life as husband and wife. If Sarah went in the way of all flesh, he was convinced that he would follow one day. Was this true? He also went the same way at the age of one hundred and seventy years.
In short, the journey of man is from the womb of a woman to the tomb as the final place of rest. No one can run away from this truth.
Can you see the type of lesson Abraham taught his son, Isaac which he also passed to Jacob, the grandson? So, Jacob knew what he meant when he declared to Pharaoh, King of Egypt,
"And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage." Genesis 47:9 King James Version, (KJV).
Beloved, how do you see your being on the Earth? You are here for a season. Stay well. Do well each day. Pray to end well. May you enjoy the help of the Holy Spirit to live to please the Lord your God in the name of Jesus Christ. Watch and pray. The Lord is coming soon.
