At the start of this piece, I remember the story of two Gardners who were employed on the same day in the same establishment. Many years later, one of them became the Chief Executive Officer of the company while the other remained a Gardener. When the perpetual Gardner who narrated the story was asked the cause(s) of the wide gap between them, his reply was, 'I worked for my salary but he worked for the company."

This does not happen to those who are employed on the same day. It works in the lives of those who were employed on different days, months, and years. The last can become the boss or the blessed while the first remains in the same spot.

The Lord Jesus Christ concluded a parable thus,
"So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen." Matthew 20:16, King James Version, KJV.

It is not how soon you were called to become saved from your dirty past but do you remain saved? Does your first altar remain hot? How is your first faith, is it as strong as ever or it has diminished? At what level of faith are you operating?

Or are you now left with only "once upon a time." when new converts are burning for the Lord their God?

Have you been called into the gospel ministry? How is your present zeal for the work of the Lord? Have you relaxed only to do the work you choose lazily? Do you expect the same rewards as those who have just been called and are zealous to do the work of the Lord? Let all firsts be continually dutiful so that the lasts will not replace them.

When the Owner of the work comes, there will be arrangements and rearrangements. When this takes place, beloved, where will you be? I ask myself the same question.

It is sad that being called alone does not suffice but being chosen is the ultimate. It is not for the called to choose himself, it is the Owner Who will do the choosing. It is only those who please Him that will be chosen. This does not concern hypocrites and backsliders. It concerns only those who do His will to please Him alone.

Beloved Pilgrim, the Mercy, and Grace of the Lord will speak for you at the point of choosing so that your first will not become last in the name of Jesus Christ. Please, be in step with Him and the Holy Spirit will help you until the end in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
