Detachment And Attachment

Everyone who has faith in God has a man who was in the flesh as a father of faith. His life portrays faith in all ramifications. From day one of his encounter with his Creator to the day he breathed his last. he was in step with his God, Who never left him nor forsaken him. There were two stages of his dealings with his Maker, Who became his Permanent Friend:

DETACHMENT
The first part of his relationship with the Lord his God was detachment. Since his birth, he had been used to so many things. The people who gave birth to him, the people he grew up with, the customs and traditions (abominable or not), possessions, lifestyle, and so on.

On a certain day and at a set time, he encountered his Lord, Who laid a new and different foundation for his life and family forever. The instructions he received were,
"[1]The lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.
[4]So Abram departed as the lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran." Genesis 12:1,4.

Can you see that this is the peak of detachment? At the appointed time chosen by God, Abram who later became Abraham, was separated from a life he had lived for seventy-five years to start a new life. Do you think it is an easy thing? No! On the other hand, he chose to obey the One Who spoke to him, not knowing a particular place he was going.

He was not bothered. He put his faith in the God Who talked with him and trusted His promises to him. He obeyed without any delay. He was detached completely and forever from all those people and things he was used to. He never went back, nor did his wife and son.

ATTACHMENT
Since his detachment from his former lifestyle and all associated with it, he needed an attachment that was readily available in his Creator Who had loads of benefits for him. Since he was attached to Him, he was left with only one source of instructions against pools of human counsels, valuable or not. The all-knowing God became his Instructor and Counsellor forever. The only occasion when he listened to his wife's advice, became a source of bitterness to him.

His permanent Friend demanded that he walk perfectly before Him. Since then, he never took counsel from any other person but the Lord.

All the promises at the outset were fulfilled. His children after him became beneficiaries of his walk of faith with his Maker.

Beloved Pilgrim, have you been truly detached from your past lifestyle? Or do you think that you can continue in it to reap the promises of God for His people? It doesn't work like that. Be detached completely.

After that, be permanently attached to the Lord your God. He is ready to be your permanent Friend as long as you set Him always before you and obey His instructions only.

Your age is not a barrier to the needed detachment and attachment. Do it and generations after you will reap the benefits. If you have already taken this step, congratulations! Remain glued to Him. Never leave Him and it shall be well with you and your generations in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
