PERSISTENCE.
Elijah began to teach us the need for deliberate persistence and consistence in our faith action, which is, obeying the specific instruction God gave us.
1Kings 18:41-46.
Then Elijah said to Ahab, "Go and enjoy a good meal! For I hear a mighty rainstorm coming!"
So Ahab prepared a feast. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and fell to the ground and prayed.
Then he said to his servant, "Go and look out toward the sea." The servant went and looked, but he returned to Elijah and said, "I didn't see anything." Seven times Elijah told him to go and look, and seven times he went.
Finally the seventh time, his servant told him, "I saw a little cloud about the size of a hand rising from the sea." Then Elijah shouted, "Hurry to Ahab and tell him, `Climb into your chariot and go back home. If you don't hurry, the rain will stop you!'"
And sure enough, the sky was soon black with clouds. A heavy wind brought a terrific rainstorm, and Ahab left quickly for Jezreel.
Now the LORD gave special strength to Elijah. He tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab's chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel.
FAITH CAN NEVER FAIL, UNLESS WE FAINT!
Jesus also reminds us of the never failing blessing of persistence.
Luke 18:1-8.
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up.
"There was a judge in a certain city," he said, "who was a godless man with great contempt for everyone.
A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, appealing for justice against someone who had harmed her.
The judge ignored her for a while, but eventually she wore him out. 'I fear neither God nor man,' he said to himself,
'but this woman is driving me crazy. I'm going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!'"
Then the Lord said, "Learn a lesson from this evil judge.
Even he rendered a just decision in the end, so don't you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who plead with him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when I, the Son of Man, return, how many will I find who have faith?"
Persistent and consistent obedience, is called FAITHFULNESS. THAT'S GOD'S VERY CHARACTER. THAT'S WHY HE DOESN'T FAIL, BECAUSE HE DOESN'T FAINT! We should be like Him in our obeying, worshiping and serving Him by serving people's needs. Let's be stable, reliable and dependable, as we make ourselves available, to God 24/7. Hallelujah!
Its not ONLY prayer. Its not ONLY faith. But, its the PRAYER OF (PLUS) FAITH, that HEALS, SAVES, DELIVERS OR BLESSES US.
James 5:16.
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.
