The Jewish leaders were afraid. Jesus was becoming too liked by the people. The leaders could not take this without recourse. Their future was threatened. They were losing their hold on the people. Although they saw His miracles and heard Him speak, they had no place for Him in their hearts. They believed they understood what God wanted and this man was getting in the way of them doing what they believed they were called to do. But actually their thoughts and deeds and beliefs went no further than their selfish, evil desires.
