A church bulletin announcement with a wrong word choice:
"Join the choir. We know you will receive a blessing by
taking part in the Worship Choir Mystery.

What is worship? Webster says this about the verb worship:
"to regard with great or extravagant respect, honor, or
devotion." -- " In 1 Chron. 16 and again in Psalm 29:2 (niv)
we have almost the exact words repeated -- "Ascribe to the
Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the
splendor of His holiness."

How do we worship God in the splendor of His holiness --
His holiness? I can't even begin to imagine the splendor of
His holiness, let alone try to worship Him in a manner that
befits that description.

As we read through God's word and are reminded time and
again of the extravagant temples, priest's robes, etc. that
were used in worship and then read verses like the above
and consider Webster's definition, we do get a sense that
worship is not flippant, casual or light-hearted. You get a
feeling of awe, dedication and wonderment.

Today we find assumed worship in all types from the frivilous
to the very formal. My pastor wears a robe, and I'm grateful
for that because it adds a feeling of dignity and respect to
our worship that is worthy of "the splendor of His holiness."
Your choir wears robes, so why should your pastor be any
less dignified?

Today's E-Cheer is just some food for thought. My God is
awesome in His holiness -- He's not a clown.
