As the sun ebbed below the horizon
It marked the demise of another day
Fowls sought a haven of sanctuary
Predators came out in search of prey
The elderly gentlemen's chores all done
Four-score-years, now had passed
For him; many sunsets, were behind
He wondered "which would be his last"
From the porch swing facing westward
He sat as oft he had done before
Analyzing choices he had made today
Wondering if, he could have done more
Sunsets can exhibit many sentiments
About how we relate to life
As each segment comes to an end
Most are a mixture of joy and strife
If it's a few days or decades
It's inevitable , - sunset will come
The important question for us to ask
Has our best, - - been done ?
As we accept this basic fact
Knowing it will come to us all
Have we embraced Godly principles
Those who have, - will never fall
