“O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.” Psalm 30:3

The writer was not in a physical grave but his experiences, the situations and circumstances in his life made feel this way emotionally.

A grave, a place where the remains of someone who once lived is placed.

In the grave decomposition, rot and corruption occurs. Its a place of dryness and hopelessness. There is no growth, no life, no sustenance in the grave.

Most times the dead are forgotten. But not by the one who said he inscribed us in the palm of his hands.

Emotionally we can feel overwhelmed, buried, covered, choked and paralyzed by the trials of life, wrongs inflicted upon us by others or even our own self defeating and intrusive thoughts, fiery darts of the enemy.

This dark valley can make one’s disposition so unattractive, even loved ones avoid you. It can lead many to deep depression even suicide. But the writer said this of the Lord.. ‘ you have kept me alive so I do not go down to the pit’

David is known for crying out to the Lord. The miracle he experienced was that when he could not help himself, when his heart was overwelmed the Lord stepped in and delivered him.

He cried out to the Lord, perhaps others were praying for him. The most important factor is that they knew who to look to for help. David said in another Psalm 121: 1-2 “I will lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? my help comes from the Lord.”

The Lord’s help may come in a song, his servant or a move of the Holy Spirt upon us.

David lived. His psalms encouraged those in the temple then and they inspire us today.

Christ defeated death and the grave.
By his grace and power we can overcome spiritual and emotional things that threaten the soundness of our minds.

Promise to stand on;
“You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3

Oh for grace to trust you more!
