LAWS AND LAWS

Do we never think of Laws as being the framework for freedom? Generally at first thought, we consider laws to be restrictions, boundaries inhibiting our rights and desires; lines that control us, ropes that bind us.

With second thoughts we can easily perceive that laws keep things in place. They provide us with a sense of predictability which produces a sense of security and does in fact make us more secure and effectively productive.

There are various kinds of Laws/laws with which we live. The laws are a fact and we either observe them ordering our lives accordingly, or we violate them and so suffer the consequences.

We live with God’s 10 Commandments and if you think not, think again. Everyone does live by them whether they obey them or not. We will shortly agree that they ARE and all things are governed by them.

We also live with God’s Laws of Nature; we tend to show a greater respect for them since we have no choice except to respect them.

We live by laws made by man such as those that control the paying of taxes and required compliance to traffic signals. We live within the laws of the family.

The point is that we are made to be law abiding, law observers, and IF we refuse THEN there is a price to pay for the non-compliance. The requirement is built into the modus operandi of living and there is no escaping it.

Without laws to provide guidelines for the making of our choices as individuals there would be chaos individually and collectively. If there were no traffic signals and everyone operated their cars at whatever speed they chose, think what devastation that would create.

We need focus points to make life work successfully. God’s Word, given to us by Him, provides us a blueprint for structuring our lives as an individual so that collectively we are in harmony with God and with each other making beautiful harmony among ourselves and enjoying life our lives together.

Jesus encapsulated the entire 10 Commandments into 2 Commandments and assured us that IF we observe and do those two things we will then have kept all the 10 original ones. He said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, body and soul and love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

That is simple and easy to remember, is it not? 1. Love God completely without reservation. 2. Love your neighbor as yourself. We give a nod of agreement and do not think these laws to be “bad” laws; but we rarely think about HOW to implement these 2 laws into our daily living.

What kinds of things would we do in fact IF we were observing these laws? I challenge you to think about that question: write on paper the things that come to your mind.

As previously mentioned, when it come to God’s Laws of Nature we have a greater tendency to be compliant. We do not for instance, jump off high buildings to fly. The Law of Gravity gets a lot of respect. WHY is that? Maybe because the consequence of violating that law is suffered immediately while in violating moral laws we feel certain that somehow we can avert the consequences, outsmart the odds.

What we fail to realize is that there are no odds. The violating of laws is assurance that we will pay retribution somewhere. Here is the PROOF:

There is a Scripture that advises us “A man chooses his own way and then accuses God of the poor results.” “A man reaps that which he sows.”

Have you ever heard of a person sowing corn seed and growing beans? Scripture tells us that God says, “Until the end of time, seed time and harvest will not fail.”

That covers farming and sowing rebellion by breaking God’s commands, whether they are moral or defying the laws of nature.

In short, we cannot live a lie, as being unfaithful to our spouse, or violating respect for our family and think that it will all just work out nicely. It won’t, because we grow what we sow.

There is also another law identified in the Bible given to us by God; it is the Law of Sin and Death. Death will overtake the areas of our lives that we relinquish to sinful practices. We cannot avert it. When we choose to violate the laws we are given to live by we have then given permission for the eventual destruction of that area of our life. We cannot break the laws set in stone in this world, we are held to them. We can violate them and they will break us.

There is also given to us words of information and wisdom in the Scriptures regarding exactly WHY it is HOW it is; “Your adversary, the devil, walks about seeking whom he may destroy.”

God created the Earth FOR mankind. He GAVE it to our father Adam. Adam rebelled and disobeyed GOD, and thereby gave Satan authority in the Earth.

So, there are 2 realities in our world, the rebellious and the Godly. We live with those realities, everyone of us.

GOOD NEWS! When Jesus came, lived, taught us, then died, shedding His Blood, and rose again, in that act HE took back ALL of it from Satan and Satan now has no power, UNLESS he can get us to let him use ours. And that is where the temptation comes to us and THAT is where we exercise our WILL making our choices to DO the right things, sow the good seed.

We are not generally aware that God WILL NOT make us DO right and the Devil CANNOT MAKE us DO wrong. WE have CHOICE. We choose the seed we sow and therefore live with the things we grow.

It is then important to KNOW what things God wants of us and we of necessity must read the Bible and learn what things God calls GOOD.

“Choose you THIS DAY WHOM YOU WILL SERVE.” Ask Jesus to save you from the evil, to forgive you of your sin(s) and then CHOOSE to learn about what He wants, and DO it. 

There is a Heaven to gain and a Hell to escape.  Jesus said so.
