 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

"Look at this!" My young friend showed me a real estate ad, describing the older house her affluent family was trying to sell in their upscale neighborhood. The house was large and luxurious and the ad reflected that as it described: "Five bedrooms, four baths, sauna, quarters..." 

"What's 'quarters?” my friend asked.  

“Real estate agents use the term for a bedroom and bath where a live-in housekeeper might stay,” I explained. Do you have something like that?”

“Well, yes, it’s just off the kitchen but we use it for storage."

"That’s probably it. See, your agent saw that, then realized what it could be and so described it in the ad. In fact, you might say that what you saw as ordinary she saw it as having promise."

That’s exactly what God occasionally with us, and especially when we think of ourselves as obscure nonentities and he sees us as potentially promise-filled for his service.

Maybe we lack the necessary self-confidence for seeking and accomplishing his plans for us, or maybe it’s just that we never realized what might be possible. Yet while we may see ourselves as either unworthy or unable to serve him, he sees us as valuable, precious, worthy and finitely qualified to receive his love, guidance and provision. You might say he has a vision for us – and just as the real estate agent saw promise in the ordinary so does God see great potential in us as his children. For we should live his plan - for our benefit and his glory.
