Who Am I?

After the campaign rally speech, a hungry Mayor George headed for the food stand for a late lunch but soon had a challenge. The glum server gave him a plate of fried chicken, potato salad and beans but the portions were quite small.

"Can I get more?" he asked.

"Nope, we're running low, and we have lots of people to feed. Now move along!”

The mayor decided she didn't recognize him so he decided to correct her. "Do you know who I am? I'm the mayor of this city. I'm in charge of the government."

"And do you know who I am?" The woman returned. "I'm the one charge of the chicken. Now move on!"

That lady certainly had self-confidence and that’s a trait I usually lack – particularly spiritual self-confidence. Yet one way to get it is to recognize who I am.  

In our passage as Jesus assures us that that since he’s chosen us to live in his presence then logically that should give us assurance.

Yes, ideally it should since because of our relationship with the Lord we are entitled to rely on him to provide our needs. So do we? Or are we bowed with fear or self-pity? Do we trust in his loving provision or wallowing in uncertainty?

So who are we? God's child or a cowed orphan?
