How I suffer day and night,

How my mind is flooded,

How my strength has faded,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How my eyes have been consumed by darkness,

How my hairs have turned grey,

How my tongue has led me into trouble,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How my hands have been covered in blood,

How my body is weak, unwilling,

How I continually give myself over to evil,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How my heart is in pieces,

How I am controlled by evil desires,

How I search but cannot find,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How I walk but stumble,

How I try but fail,

How I plan but lose control,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How I have fallen from love,

How I have lost companionship,

How I have lost trust,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How my passion has drained away,

How my courage has dissipated,

How my life has been brought to nothing,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How I can eat but cannot taste,

How I can see but cannot reach,

How I can journey but never arrive,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How I am hated, despised,

How I am judged, punished,

How I am miserable, lonely,

By the wretchedness called sin,

How I have lost hope,

How I live as a slave,

How I am under the reign of death,

By the wretchedness called sin,

Yet, how I have been given hope,

How I have been set free,

How the blood of Jesus has triumphed,

Over the wretchedness called sin.
