Isaiah 64:8 - "But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand".
Making pots or vessels out of clay is an art by itself. Adding to that, cooking from these vessels we get various benefits namely, it makes foods nutritious, tasty and environment friendly. We all know how the potter makes the different kinds of vessels out of clay, but I always wondered what is the pottery clay made of that it just cooperates well along with the potter as makes something beautiful out of it. The process is called "Clay Preparation" And this is what I found online "Pottery clay is made up of different ingredients, the main one being clay. Depending on the type of pottery clay, there are varying compositions of metal oxides, organic material, and water. Different types of clay contain different compositions of particles and minerals"
So, all these compositions must be of the right proportion in order to be made something desirable. When we compare this process with us, it points out that in order for us to be crafted into something beautiful, Jesus mixes His fruits in us. We live in His identity and inherit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…(fruits of the spirit - Galatians : 5:22-23). We are fused in His likeness and we reflect His beauty by the way we live. This is the initial part of the art of pottery.
Secondly, I want to talk about the process of "Shaping". The Potter places the clay on the Potters' wheel and begins to start molding it carefully in to a desired object. When we surrender to God to make us whole again in Him. He will take all our shattered pieces mixes it with His fruits and then starts molding us into what He has in mind. The potter while he is shaping the clay puts little water now and then to loosen the clay to take shape when it becomes stiff. The same way, while we are being shaped by God, we tend to be stiff and hesitant to change. At that time, He pour His blood, His love, His grace on us to soften us and be moldable. And the outcome is that, He shapes a beautiful being into existence.
Thirdly, the potter places the pot in fire to make it solid. This process is called " Firing". Likewise, after we are molded, He places us in fiery situations to make us solid (Ref. Isaiah 43:2) . So that we do not burn or melt away, instead we become rock solid and fire proof.
Final process is "Decorating". The potter paints the vessel with different colors and decorates it. And it becomes His grand masterpiece. In fact every vessel crafted by the potter becomes a master piece. The Lord Jesus celebrates us after we emerge out victorious. He decks us with such goodness, favor, love, joy, hope etc... And we become His Master piece showcasing His mighty move in our lives. We become New again 2 Corinthians 5:17
These processes are just an example of how Jesus molds us. So let's trust God to do His work in our lives.
God bless you.
