Do Not Cling To Me

Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” John 20:17 NIV

Much has been written on the verse, but there seems to be no largely accepted offering to its interpretation.

I do believe that the Lord is telling Mary to not continue to cling on to Him. She has a much more important task at hand, to go and tell the disciples that she had seen the Lord and tell them that He will be ascending to the Father. Of course, there would be forty days during which the disciples and others would see the Lord, who would speak further to them on things that which would be forthcoming.

There are times for us to “cling” to the Lord, to spend time in prayer with Him. There also are times in which we need to take action and carry out the work the Lord has given to us to do. Make sure to do both of these.
