He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” John 20:15 NIV

Jesus, just like the two angels, asks Mary as to why she is crying. But the Lord carries it a step further by asking her who she seeks. Even after hearing His voice, she is still not yet able to recognize Him for who He is. She thought He might be the attending gardener. Only with Jesus’ next words to her is she made open to the fact that it was the risen Lord standing there before her.

We must be attentive to the Lord working in our lives. Often, He will speak to us or in other ways reveal to us things we need to hear and know. Always be attentive to the voice of the Lord calling to you.
