Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,” and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.” John 19:34-37 NIV

And herein we see another prophecy fulfilled over which our Lord did not have control. Since they did not break His legs, one chose to pierce His side and out of it flowed blood and water. Jesus died and was pierced for our sake, that through His death and resurrection we might be saved by believing in Him.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like I have figuratively been pierced by a sword. It does not feel good. In fact, it feels very painful. I must then go to the Lord and ask Him to be my strength, as I am weak and hurt. The Lord is always there for you. Go to Him both in times of good and times of trial.
