PENTECOST in the book of Acts. Pente in Pentecost means fifty meaning Pentecost festival will come after fifty days to the festival of Passover and these are Jewish festivals which are a shadow of Lord Jesus Christ. Power and ministry can happen without Holy Spirit but more power and more ministry can happen with Holy Spirit.

Jerusalem Pentecost – Acts 2:4 Disciples got power when Holy Spirit came with wind and fire on the day of Pentecost. 120 people in the upper room spoke in unknown tongues. Peter prophesied a big sermon and 3000 were added on same day. Many business people came to Jerusalem for Pentecost festival and they heard disciples speaking in their own native dialect.

Samaritan Pentecost – Acts 8:5-25 Philip one of the seven deacon was the first to evangelize outside Jerusalem. And this was the Jesus command in Acts 1:8. Peter and John gave Holy Spirit to the Samaritans. Sorceror Simon who was called The Great Power after his baptism was judged because he thought to buy gift of God with the money he offered to Peter.

Paulous Pentecost – Acts 9:17 God told Ananias and also Paul about the opening of eyes and baptism in the Holy Spirit which Paul received. With this Paul influenced more and more the gentiles. Paul was chosen instrument for great call is an added bonus. Because of his conversion, Barnabas introduced Paul to the apostles.

Gentile Pentecost – Acts 10:24 - 11:18 God told Peter and also God told Cornelius about the salvation of first gentile Christian Cornelius. After salvation Peter gave Holy Spirit to Cornelius. Jews and Gentiles are in the plan of salvation. With God there is no respect of persons. Holy Spirit for common good. Even though Jew prayer was Lord thank you for not creating me as woman, slave or gentile, gentiles were elected in this Pentecost.

Ephesian Pentecost – Acts 19:1-7 The twelve men knew only the baptism of John which is for repentance for the forgiveness of sins and Paul introduced them baptism of Jesus with Holy Spirit and fire and even baptized them. God did extra -ordinary miracles by Paul. And magicians burnt 50000 drachma literature to gain Jesus.

Three types of Baptism:

            Baptism of the Holy Spirit – Holy Spirit gives this Baptism to witness for saved ones and salvation. Acts 1:8.

            Baptism of the water – Pastor gives this Baptism only to believers. This is a outward witness for inward change.

            Baptism in the Holy Spirit – Jesus gives this Baptism for saved believers to get full (100%) Holy Spirit. Luke 3:16.

Three works of Holy Spirit:

            Holy Spirit Filling – We need daily. Holy Spirit fills us daily. REALIZATION.

            Holy Spirit Anointing – Holy Spirit anoints us for special task of God. We need this occasionally. RESPONSIBILITY.

            Holy Spirit Baptism – Happens only once in the life time. RELATIONSHIP.

Some theologians claim that rapture of Christians happen on Pentecost or any other Jewish festival day like even Purim and Hanukkah because more chaste incidents normally happened on them. But Jesus told that only Father knows the time because he comes as thief in midnight to value true obedience. Now Jesus knows the time of Millennium.
