The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.” John 19:7 NIV
Notice here that the Jewish leaders state that they have a law. This law is not a law of the Romans, and thus Pilate would be even all the more justified in telling them to take Jesus and judge Him according to their law. The Jewish leaders will in just a few verses change the charge to one of treason against Caesar. Just more of the mockery of the whole trial and condemning of Christ, but this is as the Father would have it to be. How much love the Lord has for us in carrying out the will of the Father!
