Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?” “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.” John 18:28-30 NIV

Pilate was warned that the Jewish leaders were bringing Jesus to him for sentencing.. Pilate even acknowledged their ritual of not being unclean to celebrate the Passover, so, he even went out of the palace to meet the Jewish leaders and asked them a simple question “What charges do you bring against the man”?

The Jewish leaders will not even answer Pilate’s question, as they have no legitimate crime to accuse Jesus of committing. This is just a continuation of the “mock” trial that our Lord was given.

Can you imagine such a trial as this today, and the defendant not even speaking to defend himself? All of this was done for the salvation of mankind.
