Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” He denied it, saying, “I am not.” One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow. John 18:25-27 NIV

John spares sharing Peter’s reaction to being questioned a second and third time about being a disciple of Jesus, and his reaction after hearing the rooster begin to crow and the Lord looking at him. John was just interested in us knowing, that as Christ had predicted, Peter would thrice deny Him.

What are your reactions and responses after you deny Christ? We all are guilty of this at some time or another. If you truly are a Christian, the Holy Spirit will certainly cause feelings of regret and remorse to fill your heart. You might even weep as Peter did. We need the cleansing that comes from our remorse and regret over our shortfalls. It is a gift that we have these feelings, letting us know that without our Lord we are spiritually bankrupt and doomed to an eternity away from God’s presence.

Weep over your sinfulness and be cleansed by the Almighty through the power of the blood shed at Calvary!
