Peter sensed danger, and thus took action. Remember, just recently Jesus had told Peter that he would deny the Lord three times that very night. Peter wanted the Lord to know that it would not happen.

When Jesus speaks to us, do we ever quickly take action before first making sure we truly understand what He is saying to us? We must be sure that what we do is that which the Lord intends and not what we perceive it to be. Many times, Jesus does not need or want us to immediately react, but first to understand that which He asks of us. When you hear that quiet voice speak to you, be attentive. Let the Holy Spirit direct as God will have you do what He wants.
