Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” John 18:11 NIV

Jesus did not just tell Peter to put his sword away, He commanded him to do so! Wow! Peter was doing that which he thought he must do to protect his Master, and Jesus said NO! Jesus knew why the Father had sent Him. The hour had now come for our Lord to drink from the cup which the Father had given Him. Drinking from this cup was to bring glory to God and salvation to all who believe in Jesus. There was no other “back-up” plan by which man could be saved. It all depended on Jesus drinking from the cup given Him by the Father.

Jesus gave His life for you that you may live, live abundantly in His love and be freed from the guilt and shame of sin. Jesus rose from the dead, that through belief in Him you be raised from spiritual death. Give your heart and soul to Him! When that is done you shall feel that which the world can not possibly provide for you, eternal peace and joy that does not leave and can not be taken away from you.
