Let Them Go

Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they said. Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.” John 18:7-9 NIV

Jesus asks again who they seek, and they reply with the same answer. Jesus willingly gave Himself. This is why He came to earth, to be a sacrifice for the atonement of sin. He was willing to give Himself over to those who came for Him in exchange for letting those who were with Him to be allowed to go free. Who else in such a situation would have allowed themselves to be taken captive in exchange for their followers to be let go? God Himself, in the form of man sacrificed His life for all who will come to Him. No one who belongs to Jesus shall be lost. The Good Shepherd protects His flock.
