Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. John 18:2-3 NIV
Previous trips to this garden are not mentioned elsewhere in the gospels. I believe this would have been a place of quiet for Jesus and His disciples, to get away from the crowds for a bit.
Judas nor the ones who accompanied him to the garden really understood Him. Did they really think their weapons could stand against Jesus if He so chose to object to what was forthcoming?
Do we at times lose understanding of the fact that God is in control of everything. We at times revert to trusting in our own judgement. How foolish of us to do so. We must always trust in Jesus, as He knows what is best for us and will provide for our every need.
