Does God the Father love His children? Now before you answer with a resounding yes, take a second and think about it. Isn’t uttering “I love you” the standard society uses to measure love? How many times have you heard of women who take abuse from their husband or boyfriend, while at the same time say, “But he really loves me!”? How many times have you seen employers say they love and care for their employees, but a week later, the company downsizes. Wow, talk about talk being cheap!

In the Bible, there are 512 verses where either the word, love, loves or loved appears. In only 2, or less than one half of 1% of these verses, is God the Father actually speaking saying he loves someone (Isaiah 43:4 and Hosea 11:1). Even in those cases the object of His love is Israel and not the church. So, does that mean the Father does not love us, the church? I think the Apostle Paul would say, “Lord forbid!”

So what am I getting at? God places a high premium on demonstrating love than he does on how many times you say you love. A good definition of love is truth in action. Romans 5:8 says, “God demonstrated His love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” There is an old adage that says, “That goes without saying.” We normally associate that with the negative but it should be associated with the positive. As evidenced by the Scriptures, God does not have to repeatedly tell us He loves us. He shows it! He gave us heaven’s best – his Son. I guess that is why John wrote, “Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.” – John 3:18.
