“I’ve never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul!” How may times have you heard that one? The ancient Egyptians were famous for burying possessions with their dead. There is biblical evidence to quash that notion:

· Job 1:21
· Ecclesiastes 5:15
· 1 Timothy 6:7

Jesus warned about trying to accumulate things that would eventually come to ruin.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19

Then how you can it with you? The key to understanding this is not whether you can take it with you. The key is the definition of “it.” “It” is not the physical things we acquire of the abstract accolades we obtain. “It” refers to those things that are for the benefit of God’s kingdom (Matthew 6:20-21). Jesus taught the heart dictates the location of the treasure. God examines the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). Synonym for heart is motive. Our motives for what we do can be traced to our heart. When God examines the heart he also examines motives (1 Corinthians 4:5).

The old folks used to sing about sending up timber on a daily basis. What will be waiting in heaven for us depends on what we do with pure motives on earth for the kingdom of God. Our timber can be defined by a GIRRL.

I-Incorruptible: victor’s crown, 1 Corinthians 9:24-25

R-Rejoicing: soul winner’s crown, 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20

R–Righteous: for those who live His appearing, 2 Timothy 4:8

L–Life: martyr’s crown, James 1:2 and Revelation 2:10
