Grief

Report Article
It was like watching an action-packed movie—this dream I had, many years ago. I was part of the crowd of onlookers watching the chaos unfold. Cars were swerving, trying to avoid this angry young girl who was standing in the middle of the road, engaging in some form of activity. Cars were crashing, going over the precipice in view and causing fatalities. No one seemed to know what to do. It would appear that they all felt sorry for the victims but did not know what to do.
There was no way of warning the people heading in her direction and as much as I wanted to help that little girl, I also wanted the fatalities to cease. So, I asked God to use me. As I was praying, I moved forward, not knowing what I would say or do but I kept walking towards that little girl. As I approached her, I opened my mouth and the following words came out:
“Your parents did love you, they just didn’t know how to show it.”
I am now constantly being reminded of that dream. Whenever I hear about, am involved in, or witness any form of conflict, I’m reminded of that dream. Just like in that dream, those present simply do not know what to do. Most people I’ve served with or under, are afraid of confrontations. They do not know how to deal with conflict in a healthy way. Many of us do not know how to engage with each other in a healthy way and therefore, simple issues often become major conflicts.
Conflicts often stem from not being able to communicate our needs effectively. Miscommunication and lack of understanding causes wrongful assumptions and judgment of each other leading to conflict.
When I first had the dream, I knew it was more than just a dream, so I wrote it down. I usually saw from the perspective of making oneself available to be used by God to help that little girl—whoever she was! Years later, I began seeing that dream from a different stance. I saw a little girl trapped in her adult body. I saw adults who needed to feel loved and cared for. They are all in different situations but all emotionally immature and silently crying out for help.
Where do you see yourself in the picture today?
Are you the one crying out for help—in the position of the little girl, wreaking havoc without realizing it? The little girl may represent an individual in your team, a member of your family or the child trapped in your adult body, whether male or female. If you are like that little girl, there are plenty of resources available to help. You don’t have to travel this path alone.
Are you one of the people seeing what’s happening and doing nothing because you don’t know what to do? Are you simply watching the chaos unfold?
You may feel like it is too late to make a difference but I want to encourage you to make a decision to walk the path of change today. Sometimes the help is not a major part, to you it might seem insignificant but it will be a very important piece of the puzzle for that individual. Allow the Holy Spirit to transform your mind and allow you to see from a different perspective. There’s a lot you can do to help. So, if you are in the crowd, I urge you to make yourself available for God to use you to help your brothers and sisters.
In the dream, I just wanted to help. I needed to do something, I just didn’t know what to do. I was also aware that whatever it was I needed to do or say could not be done in my own strength. So, I simply asked God to use me. As I walked away from the crowd, towards the young girl, I had no idea what I would say or do. Nevertheless, I opened my mouth and the words came out: “Your parents loved you, they just didn’t know how to show it.” It may have seemed insignificant to me or others but they were the exact words she needed to hear. Her hardened heart melted, as the tears flowed and she was comforted in the arms of the one whom God chose to speak through.
Could you be God’s mouthpiece today?
Could you be that shoulder to cry on?
Could you be the one to deliver the message, despite your fears?
Could you take a step of faith and reach out to someone in need today?
