To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:31-36 NIV

Jesus tried to get people to see that which is beyond the flesh. Why? Because God is Spirit and if we wish to communicate with Him, we must do so not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. We cannot approach God in the flesh, as the flesh is full of sin. One may not be a slave in the sense of being the property of someone, but if one lives in the flesh then they are a slave, enslaved by the sin which consumes their flesh.

Why won’t so many admit to the slavery of the body to sin? Too many have spirits that are dead. These folks have no place in their lives for God. They are too engrossed in me, myself and I. They believe that they are good people and have no need to be saved. “Saved from what?” they would ask. So, they live on in the flesh, with a spirit that is dead. God will not force Himself upon anyone. He has given each of us free will. The choice of what we do is our own. We must choose to accept God and His love.

A slave cannot belong to the family of God any more than a physical slave can truly be a son or daughter of an earthly family. Do you want to be a child of God, a son, or a daughter? You had no choice in picking your earthly parents. Will you have the Heavenly Father to be your eternal Father? Will you have Christ to be your Savior and your Lord? Will you have the Holy Spirit, the Father’s gift to those who believe in and follow His Son? Will you allow the Holy Spirit to indwell you and guide you in the ways of the Lord? Repent and ask Jesus to forgive you through the power of His innocent blood shed for you at Calvary.

You have a choice to make in life. You can choose through God’s grace and mercy to be a child of God though a life committed to the Lord, or you can live a life with a dead soul and a body which controls you and being a slave to sin. And your reward for all of this later way of life would be an eternity in the fiery abyss, lost forever with no hope of redemption. I pray that you will choose trough God’s love and grace to be a child of the Almighty!
