Man's Limitations

Tony Robbins says two men were instrumental in producing effective behavioral

-intervention patterns that they codified in the modeling of one of the greatest

hypnotherapists that ever lived Dr. Milton Erikson.

Robbins says modeling is the key to success. It means he says, "If I see anyone

in this world producing a result that I desire, I can produce the same results if

I'm willing to pay the price of time and effort."

Tony and those that follow his philosophy think in their vain imagination that they can model anybody's success.

Doesn't this sound wonderful?

You can get rich selling this hope and benefit to mankind and obviously Tony has done just that.

However, let us reflect a bit on the following supposition.

I see a great baseball pitcher hurling a fast ball at nearly 120 MPH.

Now I want to do the same because I want to be a strike out king and get praise

and....well I can make the big leagues with this kind of pitch.

I study every movement of this great pitcher with the precision and imagine

throwing the fastest pitch that will buzz right past the batter in the strike zone.

The ball in my mind is going so fast that the batter doesn't have a chance to hit it.

Despite my most zealous and concentrated efforts my fast ball barely clocks in at

85 MPH.

What happened I ask myself?

I need more speed but to get more speed I need more power.  Where will that come from?  My imagination or is there a limit to my physiological constitution and power?

Of course there is and that is either an innate God given ability and/or partially learned and developed with the God given ability but God seldom gets any credit.

What did the apostle Paul say under the inspiration of God in his first letter to the Corinthians chapter 4 verse 7?

For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

So what happens is we focus on man's ability to perform at his/her peak level and we continually try, change, repeat, make adjustments but with only slight improvements but nowhere near the 110-120 MPH fast ball that might be found

in the greatest pitchers.

So this would be great pitcher resigns his desires for greatness and settles for the fact that he will never pitch a ball that fast no matter how determined he is.

Now apply this to any field.

Suppose you wish to model the greatest marketer like Jay Abraham and many have.

Many have studied this man's copy, strategy and tactics attended his expensive $5,000 to $25,000 seminars, bought his expensive books and perhaps even consulted with him only to find they've achieved a much more modest result.

Face it there's only one Jay Abraham who can charge $120,000 per day for his one on one consulting.

Likewise there's only one Tony Robbins.

Man has limitations and these are not just limitations he imposes on himself but these limitations are imposed at birth and can only be partially overcome with training and knowledge.

A boxer can get faster and learn some great offensive and defensive tactics but

how do you develop that God given knock out power like former heavy weight boxer Mike Tyson or middle weight Gennady Golovkin possess?

It comes to a few individuals.  I don't think you can learn it.  It's a gift.

So...don't beat yourself up because you don't have the gift of others.  Emulate the gifted

apostle Paul and those brave missonaries and other saints throughout time who were faithful

in bringing the gospel to heathens within and without their nation.

You may not have the gift of eloquence or gab to move the crowds like a George Whitfield

or Charles Spurgeon or to get a standing ovation if you were a contemporary motivational speaker like some but that's ok.  Use what God has given you.

Speak the truth in love and you've done more than you can imagine.

Don't seek the praises of men by what you do for therein is the spirit of the Pharisees.

If you belong to Jesus the Lord is your great reward.  You need not seek any other from men.
