“I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: ‘He who shared my bread has turned against me.’ “ John 13:18 NIV

So, why would someone choose a person to be his follower if he knew that the person would turn against him? Christ did not come to earth that He might be served, but that He might serve and be a ransom for many. He came to do the will of the Father. He came that all the scripture about Him may be fulfilled, including that one of His followers would turn on Him.

Many prophecies were made about the coming Messiah, and our Lord needed to make sure that each was fulfilled that no one could prove anything was missing in what had been foretold
