Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. (Psalm 37:3 New KJV)

 “In God We Trust”. Hold a United States coin or piece of currency in your hands and gaze upon it and you shall see these words. When our founding fathers determined these words should be on our coin and currency, they were stating a belief in the dependence upon God that our nation would thrive through trust in Him. Where has their trust in God gone for us as a nation? Do we really trust God? Do we trust Him as individuals, as a nation, as a world? Individually, some of us do truly trust God. As a nation and a world, I have serious doubts as to our trust in God.

 When an issue arises that is of concern to you, who do you turn to for help? Do you turn to family or friends, do you turn to government of some form? God does put people in our lives for a reason, and it is not wrong to seek help from others. However, we should first turn to God. Our utmost trust should be in Him.

 Why do we not trust or trust first in God? Reasons are many. First, some don’t believe in God so obviously don’t trust in Him. Some may think God has much more pressing things to be concerned with than our individual or collective issues. Some might know that their desires or wishes are contradictory to what God wants and thus they do not trust. There are thousands more. Just pick up your “excuse book” and read from the list.

 I dare to say that all the reasons we have for not trusting God are lies. Some are of our own doing and some have been placed in us by the evil one. Never the less, they are lies!

 If we trust in God, then we will do good. Here I mean good that is righteous.

 Did you see that within the scripture verse we are offered a promise for trusting God? First, we shall dwell in the land. What land? We shall dwell in a land that is not reached by any form of human transportation. The land we shall dwell in is the kingdom of God. Yes, it is a land of the Spirit. We dwell in it as the Holy Spirit dwells within us. You cannot reach this land, the kingdom of God on any merit of your own. You must have trust in God. If you trust in God, you are obedient to Him and to His will. The Holy Spirit comes to those who give themselves to Jesus Christ. This most definitely is part of trusting God. Secondly, when we trust God we will feed on His faithfulness. No one is more steadfast in their faithfulness than is God.

 What does it mean to feed on God’s faithfulness? God wants to abundantly bless you. God does bless those who trust in Him. He is always with the believer through everything. He provides comfort, joy and peace to the believer. The believer is fed by God’s word, spiritual nourishment which is needed to keep the Spirit of God alive and thriving within the believer.

 The next time you see “In God We Trust” on a US coin or currency, what will you do? Will you say “yah, yah, I know”, or will you maybe get this slightly warm fuzzy feeling, or might you look heavenward and thank your creator and from the depth of your heart let Him know that you do truly trust Him.

 I pray that you would do the later. Inherit the land promised by God and feed upon His faithfulness. TRUST GOD!!
