Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; John 13:3 NIV
So, what are we to make of this verse? Jesus was well aware of His deity and that all was created through Him, and yet we see in the upcoming verse the humility He showed through the example that He left for His disciples. True love is shown through selflessness. How can one be loving and selfish at the same time? It cannot be. Leaving the example for the disciples showed them how they must be if they wished to continue in His ways. If God incarnate could and did do as He did should we not be willing to do the same? If we wish to be true followers of Christ, then we must show love as He did, with focus on others and not on self.

I can't be sure but I think you are saying that Jesus, although He had the power to stop the mistreatments He suffered, could have stopped them all. He could have. He didn't stop them all, but some He did.
Remember how the crowds would come after Him and He would, "Hide Himself?" It wasn't TIME yet.
I agree we must show love to all persons and things, but some things are a danger to our life...like a coiled snake ready to strike. Right then is not the time to go all loving to the snake.
As for people; what is "loving?"
If your child is doing a wrong thing, that is not the time to tolerate it because it is the duty of parents to train children, to help them learn self-control.
If a spouse, or other family member, is refusing to do their part for the good of the family by indulging themselves in whatever the indulgence, that is not the time to say, "Well, I have to show LOVE."
What is showing LOVE?
I feel the Christian Community has been taught to permit the devil to lead our folks astray and destroy them while we keep quiet under the guise of being "loving."
When we do that we are giving our agreement and are permitting the devil to destroy them and everyone around them.
My thoughts about love are connected to Jesus, but from the perspective that Jesus corrected wrong behavior for the sake of all involved.
When the TIME came for Jesus to permit the devil, through those who hated Him, to kill Him, that was not indulging the evil and giving in to it. Being a non fighter, a Pacifist.
He was permitting it because by that act He forever whopped the Devil and company, and brought us Salvation, and then gave to us the Power He has to share a part in continuing to whoop the devil by invoking His Name and His shed blood, all for the purpose of bringing about of righteousness into the earth.
We are to show love, by feeding the hungry, visiting the shut-in and those in prison, healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out devils.
You may or may not agree with my thoughts. If you don't I just say, read some more of Scripture, it is all there.
But maybe you just didn't elaborate enough of what you are thinking.

I wanted to respond because I wasted years putting up with un Christian behavior from a spouse who was a Deacon in the Church. I was wrong to do that.
