A Thief At Heart

He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. John 12:6 NIV

Do you wonder how it is that the gospel writer here knew of the fact that Judas Iscariot was a thief? Keep in mind that the gospel was written later on in the life of John, when he was aware of much more than at the time of the events occurring. It might be that it was revealed to John by the Holy Spirit, or maybe Christ even told him. Since John mentions about the thirty coins paid as a price for Judas’ plan with the Jewish leaders, we know quite well of this man’s love of money.

Do we sometimes compromise in doing the work of the Lord, giving in to earthly desires of wealth, fame, or other things and back away from the will of the Lord? When we realize that this is what we have done, hopefully our hearts fill with remorse and regret, and we turn to the Lord seeking forgiveness and restoration. He is there, waiting to forgive and restore us when we turn to Him.
