Anointing His Feet

Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. John 12:3 NIV

Here again we have an occurrence of Martha being busy with the acts of serving while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus. Mary could not have realized the full implication of what she did, but she was doing this out of pure love for her Lord and Master. It must have taken a bit of time to dry His feet with her hair. The perfume had to have been quite potent, as its smell filled the entire house.

What gift do we bring to the Lord when we come to Him? The gift He desires is the gift of our heart and soul. If we bring these to Him and adore and worship Him and are obedient to Him, we shall truly be pleasing in His eye.

Mary’s gift here was the expensive perfume. Bring your heart and soul unto the Lord. What could the Lord desire beyond this?
