A prayer in response to Matthew 25:14-30

Lord God,

I thank you for the hope that one day my Master Jesus will return,

I thank you that he will come to bring justice once and for all,

And for those who have trusted in his name,

I thank you that it will be a time of great joy when all of God’s promises will be fully realized,

But as I continue to hope in Jesus,

This does not mean that I should be idle,

Like the servants in Jesus’ parable,

I also know that I have been entrusted with a great work to do now,

So as I wait for my Master’s return,

Please help me to be faithful with the talents that he has given me,

Teach me to avoid the foolishness of laziness,

But to eagerly keep watch, knowing my master will return soon,

And as long as I have breath in me and there is still time,

Help me to make the most of the abilities, resources and opportunities you have given me,

As I work for my Master’s glory,

Please teach me to be wise with my remaining time,

And to use all of my energy to do my duty well,

With the strength that you give me,

So that the work that my Master has left me with will not go undone,

And although at times it may seem like Jesus’ return is still far off,

Please help me not to lose focus on you or to become discouraged,

But to keep holding firmly to my hope in Christ and persevere in doing good,

So that when my Master does return soon,

I will be rewarded as one of his faithful servants,

And enter the joy of the fullness of his kingdom.
