Arrival In Bethany

On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem, and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. John 11:17-19 NIV

Well, no wonder the disciples had fear within. Bethany was only two miles from Jerusalem where all the leaders were, searching for Jesus to kill Him. And here we are told that Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days. So there was no way that Christ would be raising the man from physical slumber. No one, except Christ Himself, knew what lay in wait. As the disciples, and other onlookers watched, they believed that they might all go out to the tomb to mourn over Lazarus. The disciples were in fear and the remainder of people were mourning with Martha and Mary. What a sight that must have been. It is nice to know that Martha and Mary had many there to help comfort them.

In times of trouble and sorrow we need others to help comfort us. But most of all we need the comfort of our Master, our Lord, Jesus Christ!
