Then Thomas (also known as Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” John 11:16 NIV
Poor doubting Thomas, he is still focused on the fear of danger that they might face in Judea. But don’t we shy away ourselves from fearful circumstances?
Realize though that you are dying every day, and I am not referring here to getting closer to your leaving the realm of the living. Every day we who belong to Christ are dying, dying to the enslavement of sin, dying to the lure of this world and the deceit of the evil one. Each day we pick up our cross and follow in the steps of our Lord Jesus Christ. We die to temporary satisfactions that we might live eternally in the presence of God. We die to self that others might have a better life, a life that will hopefully be dedicated to Jesus Christ. If we do not fear dying to self, why should we fear anything this world throws at us? We die with the Lord!
