Lord God,

We now live in a world where homosexuality is increasingly embraced,

And those who don’t support it are increasingly shunned or seen as bigoted,

In a world that no longer supports the traditional biblical view of sexuality and marriage,

We can find it difficult to know how to uphold your truth,

We struggle to know if we should remain quiet about our convictions in the public sphere,

Or speak out and risk creating more conflict and opposition,

We struggle to know how to respond when loved ones openly embrace their homosexuality,

Or when the church begins to compromise with the values of our society,

We struggle to know how to care for other believers who struggle with homosexual feelings,

Or teach our children your truths when they are told conflicting messages about sexuality,

Lord, may you give us the courage and strength to stand for the truth,

And to do so with compassion and love,

Please teach us to humbly obey and uphold your message on marriage and sexuality,

Even when it leads us to be hated by the world,

Please give us wisdom and understanding of the Bible,

So that we would be ready to answer those who ask us to give a defence for our view,

Help us to uphold the biblical teaching of marriage and sexuality in our churches,

And teach us to stand up for the legal rights of Christians to live out their beliefs,

But I also pray Lord, that as we seek to be followers of the truth,

Please guard us against the temptation to become prideful, cold and judgemental,

As we seek to share the Bible’s message with those who have opposing views,

May you help us to be quick to listen and slow to judge,

I pray that you would remove any desires we have to simply win arguments or condemn,

But I pray that all our conversations on this issue would be marked by grace and love,

Please help our churches to be places where people of all sexualities are welcomed,

And invited to explore the truths of the Bible for themselves,

Lord, I also pray that within the church,

May you help us to show patience and love to each over regarding this issue,

That when we encounter other believers who disagree with us,

We would continue to gently speak the truth to one another in love,

And when a brother or sister in Christ confesses their homosexual desires,

We would bear their burdens and walk alongside them as they seek to keep following you,

Above all, please continue to convict us that you alone know what is best for us,

And your design for marriage and sexuality is good for us,

May you help us to rest in this truth,

Even when we fail to understand all the reasons for this,

I pray especially that we would be reminded that we do have good news to share,

And there is a wonderful hope for all people with homosexual desires,

That true freedom and our identity is not ultimately found in our sexuality,

But it is found in a personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,

Who has redeemed us from a life of simply living for our own desires,

And called us to new life where we can now forever share in God’s goodness and blessings.
