All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. John 10:8 NIV

At first this verse may seem hard to understand. Certainly, Christ here is not referring to the prophets of old who spoke of Him. Who is he referring to then? He is more than likely referring to those who were guides or leaders of the people in terms of worshipping, but specifically those who claimed to have access to “keys” to the door which led to a good standing with God. The Jewish leaders, in all their self-centeredness definitely believed they had access to the “keys” to the door. But the people never really whole-heartedly believed in the way the Jewish leaders carried themselves, therefore being like the sheep who would not listen to the robbers and thieves.
