His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?” Some claimed that he was. Others said, “No, he only looks like him.” But he himself insisted, “I am the man.” John 9:8-9 NIV

The ones who claimed he was the man born blind were most likely his neighbors while the ones who had formerly seen him begging said it was just someone who looked like the blind man. Any neighbors who would have seen him and said he was not the blind man were just not willing to accept the fact that a miracle could have happened to him.

What happens when you hear of a miracle happening to someone and you then see the individual? Are you happy for them, or do you think that nothing really happened? Can we not accept goodness that comes to someone else without feeling negative that nothing good came to us from it? We must take the focus off ourselves and put it on the needs of others. That is what God would want of us.
