Prayers
Report Article
Lord God,
When I wake up in the morning,
The sunshine through my window no longer seems bright to me,
I no longer cherish the sounds of the birds singing outside my window,
And I no longer feel compelled to thank you for a new day,
When I set aside devotional times with you now,
My heart no longer leaps with excitement as I open your Word,
I feel so stale as I dully recite the same old prayer requests,
And I mind constantly wanders to other things,
When I go to church each week,
It feels so tiring having to greet everyone with a beaming smile,
It feels annoying having to hear the same songs repeatedly,
And I dread the thought of having to hear the same Bible passages being preached on again,
Lord, I have lost my joy and passion for you,
Have mercy one me because my heart has become hardened,
Please renew me by your Spirit,
I pray that you would open my eyes and my heart once again,
That I would look beyond the temporary problems and desires,
And set my gaze on Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour who upholds me,
Teach me to cast all my cares and burdens once again on him,
Knowing that in Christ I will find rest for my soul,
When I am tempted to allow worry to rule my life,
Teach me that I can know peace in the fact that you will provide for my needs,
When I am tempted to grumble over past regrets and disappointments,
Remind me that I am loved and infinitely blessed in Christ beyond what I can imagine,
When I am tempted to allow anger and bitterness to take root,
Remind that your love always hopes and covers over a multitude of sins,
When I am tempted to fall into cynicism,
Remind me of your faithfulness and that your love never fails,
When I have allowed my heart to wander after the desires of this world,
Remind me that not even all of the world’s treasures can compare with knowing Christ,
When I no longer feel the need to repent over my sinful habits,
Convict of how much I am grieving the Holy Spirit by my choices,
Lord, when I have been led to believe that you are weak, uncaring or even evil,
Convict me again of your holiness and love,
That you are far greater than what I could ever comprehend,
And nobody is wise enough to judge what you do,
Please restore the joy of my salvation and strengthen my hope in Christ,
And teach me to fear you as I marvel at all that you continue to do,
I pray that one day soon,
I will be able to marvel again at your majesty when I see the sunrise through my window,
I will hunger once more to know you through your Word and to seek you in prayer,
My heart will yearn once again to gather with your people,
And I will be filled again with thanksgiving and an unquenchable desire to sing your praises,
Not only at church, but for the rest of my life,
May you be glorified Lord,
As you turn my heart back toward you.
