Because the Jewish leaders were servants of the devil, they obviously could only accept that which was lies. Anything which reflected truth would definitely be rejected by them. Jesus spoke the truth, coming from the Father. Therefore, the Jewish leaders could not, and would not accept that which He told them. They carried it even further, seeking to have Him killed. He was to them a huge threat to their control over the Jewish people, and they certainly did not want to be exposed to the Jewish people.
