They Belong To The Devil

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44 NIV

At last the Lord tells them who they belong to, the devil himself. The devil is a murder, beginning with his deception of Adam and Eve in the garden. These leaders of the Jews who surrounded Jesus were planning the murder of Christ. Just as the devil speaks only lies, so did those Jewish leaders who surrounded Christ. They could not and would not accept the truth, and thus all that they did was filled with lies. For Jesus to have called them as descendants of Satan must have truly angered them and even more deepened within them the desire to kill Jesus. The truth hurt and they were to blind to even see it that they might repent.
