So Who Is Deceiving?

 “You mean he has deceived you also?” the Pharisees retorted. John 7:47 NIV

Now the Sanhedrin are very upset with the temple guards, with their question being a retort. But this brings to mind the real question. Who really is the deceiver here?

Certainly the deceiver is not Jesus Christ, for He speaks the Truth of the message that He was sent to share. No, in reality the deceivers are the Sanhedrin who hope to keep the people all subjected to their interpretation of God’s law, which is truly false. These men truly have no desire other than to be in charge. They surely have warped minds in terms of what they believe God wanted from mankind.

Today there are deceivers as well. Some ignore or reject Christ and say fulfillment is to be found in that which is of this world. Others deceive by speaking of Christ but using it for their own advancement and not really serving God. Deceivers existed then and they exist now.
