PROLOGUE
A friend recently paid me a rather unique off-hand compliment on my writing that went something like “You’re one of the most unusual Christian political writers I know." It’s kind of hard for some of us to hide our feelings, I guess. I’ve often been told I actually do stop preaching and go to meddling.
I really don’t have a problem self-identifying as such, as I feel that faith should be political minded. After all, our Creator did establish both the church and state, regardless of how these divine laws have been misread, misinterpreted, and misused.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” (US Constitution, Amendment I)
I have two main objective reading sources: the Bible and The United States Constitution, in that order. So, maybe I do have certain priorities which I intend to always keep. In fact, they are really not detachable, as they work hand-in-hand.
It’s like the old cliché of the flamingo’s foot being in the air, then resorting to put the foot down for a firm foundation. When they tell me to stop impersonating a writer, when they attempt to stop me from praising my God and my country as well, I will always revert to putting my foot down. Much like the proverbial flamingo, if America were to put a foot in the air, our republic would inevitably fall down.
So, here it is, my thoughts in print, a Christian-Patriotic blog entitled “Read Any Good Books Lately?”
“The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered. Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.“ (Proverbs 17:27-28).
The wind was blowing lightly against my man cave window, my little four-legged faithful companion was by my side as I began my usual routine of thinking. I was thinking about this great country of ours, and what it may, or could have to offer. Why do I write? Especially about something or someone I may not be able to help. Or maybe I might be able to turn some hearts and some heads, to our Creator’s everlasting Scripture truths. (II Timothy 3:16)
Are we quickly approaching another ground zero? I surely trust not. If so, I hope that we may not be at the wrong place at the wrong time and that we may realize, before it’s too late, what we may be able to accomplish for the good of our republic.
The title of this blog may be a good sensible opening for this politically-charged blog, a fitting opener for this writing occasion. Maybe I should alter it a bit and ask if you have heard any good political gossip lately, this being the season of much high-octane political baloney.
Have you read any interesting newspaper print, tuned into any interesting television or radio, listened in church, talked to your neighbors, overheard any shopping mall gossip, or talked around the proverbial work water cooler lately? What did you hear? Did you believe it? Did you pass it on? Social media seems to be buzzing these days.
Or did you simply dismiss it, as being taken with a grain of salt? A lot of truth is given in jest these days, being centered around a particular writer or speaker’s delivery style. Is he or she labeled conservative, liberal or simply open minded? Should it actually matter? Yes!
It may be that this relayed information is simply a matter of false imitation. Sometimes whatever fits the particular occasion is used, seemingly laying aside the proven dictates of the eternal Scripture, and America’s Constitutional dictates. Tuned into social media lately?
We freewheeling Americans tend to get a little loose-tongued occasionally. America may be an autonomous country of free speech, but we are still a country of laws, which hopefully we will never forget.
I recently tuned into a national television channel broadcasting an elected congress person’s press conference. I couldn’t believe what I had heard. Did I hear it right, these particular announced demands? Then, in the same time period, I also heard a young spokesperson, representing a certain new political action group, basically call for certain illegal criminal actions against our sitting president. Is this not America? Is this type disgraceful public dialogue not against the dictates of the law of the land?
Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States. (18 U.S. Code 2383. Rebellion or insurrection)
It doesn’t take very much character these days to engage in harassment of the American populace. Oh well, there’s no special training to be a trash collector. You just pick it up as you go along. Attended any so-called peaceful, nonviolent riots lately? (Galatians 6:7)
Our tongues may be a small organ of the body, but this little item has incredible power. Our tongues can be the most difficult thing to control and will oftentimes leave us with great regret if we use our words wrongly. (I Peter 3:10)
It’s true that we are now living in a time never before realized in this great country of ours, “The land of the free, the home of the brave.” Seen any graves moving, or anyone turning over in them lately? I’m older than dirt and twice as gritty, and I’ve never seen anything the likes of what’s going on in America these days. Free speech has surely run amuck.
Our elected officials are sworn to uphold the dictates of America’s Constitution. Tuned in the social media, or heard any elected political dialog lately?
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same …….. (US Constitution, Amendment XIV, Section 3)
Some powers-that-be seem to feel it’s all about the agitation of America’s pre-election jitters, and that it will eventually go away. I sincerely hope and pray they are right. I’m ready for America to get back to the People’s business, to our country’s grassroots needs.
We all know of, or are related to those who have fought and died for this great republic of ours. I still get a tear or two, when I see pictures of all those white crosses, representative of the loyalties and sacrifices to our country.
“The highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country.” (General George S. Patton)
To this I whole-heartedly agree, and so does my country.
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (US Constitution, Amendment II)
Well, my gift of gab surely has been working overtime. My fingers seem to be stuck to this key board. You see, my favorite frequency is 50,000 Hz. You’ve probably never heard it before, or its writing aftereffects. I do trust you gave an ear to my rambling musings.
Now am I right or am I right?
EPILOGUE
I trust and pray you found this little musing of some interest.
This upcoming national election is the most important election of our lifetime. It could mean a matter of life or death for our republic as we know it to be. The two main political party agenda platforms are the most separated, as far as our freedoms, our liberties, and the gospel is concerned, within our country’s history. Are you now ready to vote your biblical convictions? I surely pray you are. We can save our land, one vote at a time.
The Scripture is very precise in that our Creator God is in control of it all. Simply by His spoken word, He formed it all, the entire universe, all that is in it and beyond it in six days.
The Scripture is also precise in that he places rulers, both good and bad, in place to effect His eternal will. (Daniel 2:19-23) He has and He will do the same for this great country of ours.
You see, we serve a just and patient Creator, but God cannot, and will not, ever overlook evil. (Ephesians 6:12) We are seeing the mass killing of babies, the desecration of the marriage vows, governmental dictates against public prayer and Bible reading, destroying the dictates of our country's Scripture-related founding documents, and belittling the public witnessing of the gospel.
In 2016, I placed a note in my Bible, marking the Scripture passage, (Daniel 2:19-23) noting “election day” and the date. I have now added “Still Praying 2020." Please, do not vote your personal feelings. You must vote your Biblical values, please. Together, we can change the world, one vote at the time. (II Chronicles 7:14)
So, please allow me to make two predictions with respect to this great country of ours. Either our Creator, the living God, will give this country a second chance for repentance, and the right candidate will win again. Or, He will pronounce judgement upon our country, with the wrong candidate winning out. May God forbid the latter to happen. Amen!
