Blown or Good Fuse?

According to the Macmillan English Dictionary for Advanced Learners, (Second Edition), a fuse is a part of a piece of electrical equipment that makes it stop working when there is too much electricity flowing through it.

The fuse used in the car box is to limit the current and prevent fire outbreak.  In other words, fuses, which are stored in the Relay Box, protect your car’s circuitry in the case of an overload in current.

Fuses are sacrificial devices used to protect much more expensive electrical components from the damaging effects of overcurrent. They consist of a low-resistance metal or wire that is used to close a circuit.  When too much current flow through the low resistance element of the fuse, the element melts and breaks the circuit.

They are typically the most cost-effective means of providing overcurrent protection. It is interesting to note that a fuse ages, its speed of response does not slow down or change in any form. Its ability to provide protection is not adversely affected by the passing of time.

Let me now relate this to an experience I had recently.

We were on a trip to the eastern part of Nigeria a couple of months ago, precisely to Ugwu-Agba, Onitsha, Anambra State, to attend a three-day meeting. 

In the afternoon of the second day, we were to visit a Servant of God in town.  I had washed the car and re-parked it within the hotel premises for us to set out.  Few minutes after washing and re-parking, we boarded the car, cranked the engine, but it just wouldn’t respond. 

The gears were not engaging, the air conditional system stopped working, and the glass would not be wound down. What happened? We were all perplexed, having driven the car for hours only a few days ago without any fault.

We were there, troubleshooting for over one and a half hour. After a while, we suspected that one of the fuses might have blown; therefore, we opened the relay box and started to remove the fuses one by one in order to check the faulty ones.

With the aid of the car’s instruction manual, we were able to trace each fuse with its name. At last, we located the blown fuse and replaced it. Though we couldn’t go on the scheduled visit again, however, the car was back in perfect shape.

Who says instruction manuals can be pushed aside? If ours was not within reach, or perhaps we had refused to make reference to it, we could have landed in a mechanic’s workshop and could have coughed out thousands of naira in the process.

Earlier, I said that fuses are sacrificial devices used to protect much more expensive electrical components from the damaging effects of overcurrent.  And the question is, “Do I have enough fuses in my relay box, sufficient enough for my life’s journey?”  And do you, likewise? If yes, are they in good state or blown?

Some people have blown their fuses in their youthful years, as undergraduates, only for them to discover, while trying to take off at the point of marriage that their lives weren’t moving.

They have spent years troubleshooting their lives, running from pillar to post, not knowing that what they are looking for in Malaysia is actually available in Bayelsa! The fuse either needs a repair or a replacement.

Have you blown your fuses with hard drugs, gambling and lying, abortion and witchcraft? Wait! Relax, all hope is not lost.  The Manufacturer, who is also the Custodian of the instruction manual of your life, is here.  He has done it before, He is not tired of doing it again.

The prodigal son blew off his fuses early in life with riotous living, but when he came back home, the Father replaced the blown fuses in new garment, new shoes, new ring and he also threw a big party. He picked up his life again and enjoyed a smooth ride thereafter. 

Remember, Jesus said; “I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one cometh unto the Father but by me.”  The Father is also waiting for you, come back home today.
