The book of Matthew is one of the three synoptic gospels of the Holy Bible. These books present similar narratives of the life and death of Jesus Christ. The gospels include Matthew, mark, Luke and John.

The synoptic gospels are three quite similar books; Matthew, Mark and Luke whilst, the book of John offers a rather different perspective. The writing of the book of Matthew is ascribed to former tax-collector and Christ’s Apostles of same name who focuses extensively on Christ’s messages.

2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. - MATTHEW CHAPTER 10

Matthew 10:16…

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

The one who delegates the duties in the kingdom is Christ. The life of the believer is that of service just like his/her master, he is directed to serve others for nothing in return and fulfill God’s divine purpose on earth. Christ was persecuted and reviled

To be forewarned is to be forearmed! This proverb is apt and exactly descriptive of the words of Christ in Matthew 10:16. To serve the Lord and walk with Him is not an easy road. Having been given prior knowledge of possible danger(s) on the journey prepares  the Christian to be alert and tactical in handling and reacting to issues.

Many new Christians who are not versed in the words of the Bible receive a huge shock when waves of persecution and problems flow violently their way soon after they ‘give their lives to Christ’.

The study of the Bible and a serious prayer life is the antidote to a ‘cultural’ shock that comes with the territory, then, shock absorbers to help take things in one’s stride is grown with the help and guidance of the holy spirit
